On Friday September 26th, the West Warriors took on the Mira Costa Mustangs on the Warriors’ home field. The Warriors prepared heavily for this matchup. Matt Doty (12), a defensive linemen said, “Mira Costa and Carson are our biggest competitors, so we wanted to be prepared going into the game.” West came out big and beat the mustangs with a score of 35-14.

West showed their offensive prowess early on when West scored two touchdowns within the first two quarters and the Mustangs failed to put any points on the board. In the third quarter the Warriors and the Mustangs traded touchdowns. Trevor Mallet (12), the quarterback, threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Tyler Taggart (12). Mira Costa answered with a touchdown of their own to make the score 21-7.

During the 11th minute of the fourth quarter West scored another touchdown to extend their lead. However, the Mustangs answered back with another touchdown to make the score 28-14.

The Mustangs started to gain momentum as they constantly pushed against the Warriors’ defense. Inside linebacker Benton Shortridge (12) forced a fumble and recovered the ball to turn the momentum around.

The Warriors won 35-14 and defensive linemen Matt Driesler (10) said the Warriors offense, “did seriously well after a long week of hard practice.”

The Warriors feel confident going into their next game against Carson holding a strong record of 4-0. Doty added, “This win [gave] us momentum to move on to the next game.” West is looking strong and is hopeful for a successful season.
