On Thursday, December 14th, West High held its annual powderpuff game during lunch. Female participants playing flag football were separated into two teams, Hittin’ Hunnies and Hoosier Daddy, while male participants also took part in the event by wearing cheerleading uniforms and cheering on the two teams.

Hittin’ Hunnies was coached by Austin Turner (12), Max Parish (12), Sean Hegardt (12), and Joey Creede (12), and Hoosier Daddy was coached by Noah Sullivan (12), Gus Eckert (12), and Kenny Lee (12). Both teams battled intensively in a game of flag football. Hittin’ Hunnies held the lead for the entire game, winning 12-0.

Louise Cuaresma (12), a player on Hittin’ Hunnies, said, “I decided to play [in the game] because it is my senior year and I wanted to make the most of it by participating in the senior-only activities. It felt good to see all the seniors, who you normally would not talk to, out on the field and supporting one another.”

With the ongoing game, clubs also participated by selling food and drinks to raise money for their clubs. Some clubs sold samosas and bulgogi, while others sold food from popular restaurants, such as Chick-fil-A and Panda Express.

Korean Cultural Club board member Esther Lee (11) said, “I thought powderpuff was really fun because it was a bonding event for the board members. I also got to interact with students and club members while selling food.”

The student body was especially entertained by the manleaders, who had no experience cheering on the sides and bringing excitement to the game.

Sherry Zhou (11), a student spectator at the game, said, “It was interesting to watch the girls and guys switch their roles during the powderpuff game, especially the guys trying to do the cheer routines.”

Though Hittin’ Hunnies won, both teams put forth a great effort. Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s powderpuff game.
