On December 7th, the Winter Sports Rally brought the whole school together to celebrate our student athletes and to promote the Powderpuff football game next Thursday, December 13th.

The rally began with a performance of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” by West High’s Aristocracy.

One of the singers, Ashley Younger (11), stated, “It was a great experience and I felt that the school could finally get a taste of what our choir has to offer.”

After the song, all of our winter sports, such as basketball, water polo, wrestling, and soccer, walked out to the center of the gym to be acknowledged. Unfortunately, boys wrestling was unable to attend due to competition. After the teams dispersed, the four classes had representatives participate in fun games. All of this built up to the introduction of the Powderpuff teams.

Lorely Colchero (12) said, “The promotion for the Powderpuff game was incredible with the lights dimmed and the sign. I would definitely go watch the game next week.”

Following this, the group of voluntary manleaders surprised the student body with a cheer performance of their own. Many of the audience was shocked, but there was an overwhelmingly positive reaction.

In regards to this, Abril Antonini (11), stated, “I loved the fact that the [manleaders] replicated the iconic scene from mean girls. [It] was just hilarious. I have friends that are manleaders and just seeing them in those outfits was the literal highlight of my life.”

Another notable event for West students is spirit week. Be sure to wear your fuzzy socks on Monday, ugly sweaters on Tuesday, comfortable clothing Wednesday, and, last but not least, attend the Powderpuff football game on Thursday.
