American gymnast, Simone Biles, was sent to the hospital on Friday, October 26th, due to a kidney stone. Biles is an Olympic gold medalist who served in the US World Artistic Gymnastic Championships. Biles claims she had experienced stomach pains for two days, but assumed it was pain from her appendix.

Concerned, she decided to get tests done and it was then that the doctors discovered the kidney stone. When the doctors noticed her kidney stone, she was sent to the ER to remove it immediately.

Twenty four hours before the World Championships, Biles tweeted, “This kidney stone can wait… doing it for my team! [I will] be gucci girls!”

Although she was not able to get rid of the kidney stone, she still competed in the World Gymnastic Championships. She scored the highest compared to everyone else who competed for the championships, even though she was struggling through the pain.

Biles scored 171. 269 points for the United States. Russia places second with a score of 162.863 points and China placed third with 162.396 points

Agnella Nkmenji (10), a fan of Biles,  said, “I would encourage the certain individuals who are going through such struggles in their life that involve challenges in order to gain success, to remember that they do not have to go through these struggles alone; there are many people who are willing to help and support them.”

Biles faced many struggles through her life as she mentions in her book Courage to Soar, yet she managed to succeed. She is the first female African American to have won a gold medal in the World Gymnastic Championships in 2013.

Kenia Diaz (10), another fan of Biles, said, “I think that if someone with such a hard struggle still managed to compete, we should not complain over small obstacles. We should not underestimate ourselves, though we should do things that make us successful.”

This incident has made many people realize that while Biles is a talented individual, she is not perfect. Biles has encouraged that we should always push to be the best and never give up on what we started.
