West Streak of Close Losses Continues

Although West High’s current record of 6 wins and 17 losses (2-5 in league) may appear abysmal and dissatisfactory, most of its games could have been won in the closing seconds of the game. Nevertheless, West’s basketball team has taken its season in stride, preparing to actively compete in eventually victorious games. The proximity in victory and misfortune has been shown in its statistics: throughout the season, West has scored 1287 points and allowed 1351 (That would roughly average to a 56-59 loss per game). West High still has three games to salvage its season and end with a .500 record in league. As Alex Clavel (12) affirmed, “We have to continue moving on and working harder to pick up the win.”
West High’s last three games have been losses to Redondo Union (55-63), Palos Verdes Peninsula (48-55), and Mira Costa (53-57). As the scores reflect, the Warriors have been competitively playing all of their games with varsity teams in the bay league, and that victory could be attained with some sort of adjustment or “push.”
With great losses and a bit of bad luck, there have also been many positives in the seasons. In a season where West had to rebound from losingAll League player and team leader Sean Hinkley and starters Garrett Overbey and Moiz Khan, they have proved themselves capable of winning. Although this season’s record is not as close as last year’s (19-9 and 6-2 in League), the talent and athleticism has not declined and the young players have been improving while gaining experience for years to come. West’s desire for success was proclaimed when Chris Partida (12) said, “If we continue bringing our best game and motivation, there is no way we can lose.”
